First Draft--Finished?
Finished the last piece, a Tonica story about my father and his experiences in WW2 and how they impacted my life.

I did a word count and the book's going to be over 92,000 words.  I'm not sure if this is a lot or not.  In any case, it's about 40% fiction, 15% memoirs and the rest either speculation or commentary.  Twenty-five percent of the material has not been published anywhere previously.  I had hoped for a bit more, but sooner or later you have to stop fooling around and start polishing the material you have written.

It'll be tough getting it all ready to submit by the first of April, but I'll do my best to meet the deadline I set last November.

Oh! Was just sent this and thought you might be interested down the road...not that i think you'll ever have trouble talking to people or making connections :) But i also promised to share writing links, and haven't yet :)

On pitching to editors/agents: http://shanna-s.livejournal.com/233126.html

Link from [info]difrancis, who's The Cipher is a new find that i really enjoyed (was recommended to me last month).

Other journal where Writing Tips, Thoughts, Adventures, & Dialogs show up on a pretty consistent basis is [info]jimhines. Also, his third novel is out March 4, so many thoughts on book-launch promotion lately that may be interesting in a couple more months.

Kitten got Carolyn See's "Making a Literary Life" for me from the library. I read the early part and have gotten a bit or two from it. I hesitate to be reading material about writing, since I don't know how this all works in my head yet, and when I read Marge Piercy's book on doing it, I froze for a month and couldn't produce anything.

I have found something interesting in my early edits. I write as if I get paid by the "that." First thing I need to do is go through and find all of them and make sure they're necessary.

In any case, I'll be working a couple hours per day now until I'm done with the edits. Once my rewrites are done, I'll read the pieces out loud and then the editors will get a final say.

Thanks, as always, for the encouragement.

Hugs and kisses
